Briefing a visual identity for the Yyve wordmark

This guide helps an owner turn the four letters into a working wordmark brief. It covers the letterform decision, the contexts the mark must survive and the review that confirms it works before any rollout.

Step one: decide what the double Y does — YyveYyveWordmarkShapeIdentity

01

Step one: decide what the double Y does

Start by choosing the role of the repeated Y. It can be a symmetrical motif, a pair of arms that frame the V, or simply two ordinary letters with careful spacing. Sketch three directions in black and white before touching color: one geometric, one humanist, one custom-cut. Write a sentence for each, such as the geometric version feels like a precise device label. Worked example: a desk-accessory startup picks the geometric route, joining the Ys at a shared baseline so the mark reads as one gesture. The decision is documented before any palette or mockup begins.

Step two: list the places the mark must work — YyveA useful path from inputto understanding

Step two: list the places the mark must work

Next, list every surface where the wordmark appears, then test the sketches at the smallest and largest sizes. A device engraving might be six millimeters wide, an app icon sixty pixels, a storefront sign several meters. For each surface note the background, the available colors and whether lowercase or uppercase reads better. In the worked example, the desk-accessory team finds that the joined Ys blur at engraving size, so they open the counter space and thicken strokes. They also draft a single-letter icon from one Y for avatars, keeping the full wordmark for packaging and documents.

Step three: review, record and hand off — YyveA conceptual researchidentity

Step three: review, record and hand off

Finally, gather a small review group and show the mark without explanation. Ask what they read aloud, what they remember after a day and whether the Ys look intentional. Record answers and revise spacing, weight or the intended pronunciation line accordingly. In the worked example, two of five reviewers read the name differently, so the team adds a short pronunciation note to the launch page. The handoff package then contains the final files, minimum sizes, clear-space rules, approved colors and a list of misuse examples. Trademark and category review remain separate tasks for qualified advisors before commercial release.
